Wreck-Defy - The World Enslaved

Creative powerhouse Matt Hanchuck is the driving force behind Canadian thrash metal machines Wreck-Defy. The band around the busy guitarist only delivered one of THE thrash metal albums of the past year with "Powers That Be" in November 2020. In the meantime, Matt also recorded a 4-track EP with cover versions by Canadian artists, featuring some prominent artists alongside Henning Basse (Ex-Metalium, Ex-Firewind), Stu Block (Ex-Iced Earth) and Geoff Thorpe (Vicious Rumors). from the metal scene put the studio jack in their hands. With "The World Enslaved" the next steam ram is already in front of your door. But Wreck-Defy aren't knocking hesitantly, they're simply ripping your damn front door off its hinges with the ten new reef monsters!

In addition to mastermind Matt Hanchuck and ex-Testament woofer Greg Christian, there are two new musicians in the line-up. Studio drummer David Allen now provides the necessary boost on the shells. Ex-Annihilator singer Aaron Randall's departure has been more than equally re-cast by Greg "Wags" Wagner (ex-Archetype, ex-Shatter Messiah). With him at the mic, Wreck-Defy's sound is even more flexible and the bridge to Power Metal is further expanded.

Speaking about the making of The World Enslaved, Matt says, “The songs for The World Enslaved came together very quickly. I still had a lot of riffs left over from the last record "Powers That Be" and honestly when the world stood still for the longest time and I couldn't play I just dove into the songwriting and was knee deep in the process of developing the fourth Wreck-Defy Albums sunk. The lyrics for the new album are mostly steeped in reality. There are some fantasy components as well, but given the state of the world, government corruption, tyranny, lies, untruths and greed, there was no shortage of subjects to write about. The songs were written, arranged and recorded over a period of about three months."

The recordings for "The World Enslaved" were made in different places. The guitar tracks were recorded in Sault Ste. Marie Ontario Canada and Thunder Bay ON, the drum tracks were recorded at Trident Studios in Pacheco California, as was the bass tracks by Greg Christian. The vocals by Greg "Wags" Wagner were recorded in Ohio/USA. As a guest musician, Justin Steer played some of the bass tracks and recorded them in Winnipeg MB. "The World Enslaved" was mixed and mastered at Trident Studios in Pacheco, California.

The fantastic artwork was again created by Ari Arianthi of Hand Rot Art, who did a great job on "Powers That Be".
